Monday: It’s Day One of Meat-Free Fun!
Welcome to Day One of the VegWeek VegPledge! By starting today - Meatless Monday - you can count yourself as one of the nearly 20% of Americans who are opting for meat-free foods to kick off their week.
Over the next seven days, you’ll discover that meat-free eating doesn’t mean giving up flavor - it simply means choosing the cruelty-free versions of our favorite foods. For breakfast, try soy milk in your cereal or coffee and top your bagel with Tofutti cream cheese or Earth Balance buttery spread. For lunch, what about a hearty Gardein chick’n or Tofurky deli slice sandwich with Daiya cheese? And for dinner, Field Roast sausage or Nate’s Meatballs are effortless additions to pasta.

Dining Out: VegWeek Specials!
Don’t like to cook? Restaurants everywhere are starting to dish out delicious meat-free fare! Check out our popular city dining guides, which highlight the best meat-free fare in Austin; Baltimore; Washington, DC; and Los Angeles, as well as these helpful tips to find the best meal options wherever you go:
- If you don’t see veg options on the menu, just ask!
- Indian, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Ethiopian cuisines are rich with veggies and legumes.
- In Mexican restaurants, ask for extra guacamole or salsa instead of cheese or sour cream.
- Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese eateries often feature plant-based “meats” or tofu.
- Many national restaurant chains offer animal-free alternatives - ask Subway to add a vegan option, too!
