But in animal agribusiness, these highly social, inquisitive, and playful animals are treated as mere meat-producing machines. More than 100 million pigs are raised and killed for food each year in the U.S., the majority of whom are forced to spend their lives in squalid, overcrowded conditions where they’re deprived of the ability to engage in many of their most natural behaviors. We can spare them a life of suffering by choosing to eat vegan bacon and pork, such as the one included in the following recipe.
