Englin helps present first-ever Virginia VegWeek to promote local businesses and highlight health and environmental benefits of vegetarian foods

Alexandria - Delegate David Englin announced today that he is joining other Virginia elected officials to present the first-ever Virginia VegWeek, which begins Monday. This week-long effort promotes the growing number of local vegan and vegetarian businesses, and it highlights vegetarian foods as a simple yet effective way to help protect the planet, people’s health, and animals.

“I want my son’s generation to be able to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and grow up healthy and strong in a world free from the threat of global warming and destructive climate change,” said Englin, a four-time League of Conservation Voters Legislative Hero. “I’m pleased to support and participate in the 1st Annual Virginia VegWeek, because if every American ate vegetarian just one day a week, it would be equivalent to taking eight million cars off the road. It’s an easy, healthy way to protect our future.”

“It’s great to see elected leaders like David show their support for the growing number of businesses in our area that give our community amazing plant-based food options that are healthy and humane without compromising taste,” said Ben Adams, Del Ray resident and general manager of Sticky Fingers vegan bakery, which recently won the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars.
