In case you missed it, D.C. mayor Vincent Gray helped kick off Compassion Over Killing's D.C. VegWeek on the 18th, signing a proclamation
recognizing the week of April 18 as "an opportunity to explore the many
delicious vegetarian options available" in the area, encouraging people
to safeguard against health problems "by reducing the number of
animal-based products we consume."
And he's not alone in his support. Several D.C.-area restaurants are participating in this year's VegWeek by offering deals on their best vegetarian and vegan options, including Amsterdam Falafel shop in Adams Morgan, Dangerously Delicious Pies on H Street N.E. and Pete's Apizza locations in Arlington, Friendship Heights and Columbia Heights.
Now in its third year, VegWeek has already gotten nods from several politicians pledging to avoid animal products for seven days. Among those signed up this year are Rep. Donna Edwards, Maryland Del. Aruna Miller and Maryland state Sen. Jamie Raskin.
